Songbird is hosting the next in our series of Media Web Meetups next Tuesday, December 11th.
This one promises to be awesome; we’ve got some heavyweights in the realm of portable playlists coming over to have a panel discussion about the future of how music lovers are going to listen to their media on the go.
On the panel so far: Tantek Çelik (former Chief Technologist of Technorati, and microformats expert), Lucas Gonze (XSPF and portable playlist guru), Scott Kveton (Open Technology Lead at MyStrands) and Tom Conrad (CTO of Pandora).
Wow! How star-studded is that cast?
The panel starts at 6pm at our offices here at 585 Howard, but Lucas will be giving a one hour talk on XSPF and the history of portable playlists to provide some context to the panel at 5pm.

Thanks so much to you, the 50+ media service developers, Media Web innovators and entrepreneurs, birdbuilders and birdwatchers who came to the first Media Web Meet-up. I’ll post video from the meet-up just as soon as we polish in post-production.
Special thanks to Mike Linksvayer of Creative Commons for first an overview of CC’s lawyer- and machine-readable Some Rights Reserved licenses, services and software followed by a compelling State of the Union update of music on the Web. I’ll link to his slides as soon as they’re posted.
Mike also mentioned that Creative Commons is fundraising and offering a limited edition, smirk-worthy tshirt:

Also my thanks to Tara and crew from Citizen Agency for driving this and future Media Web Meet-ups. Thanks to our operations crew Sharon and Marion for producing another flawless event!
As mentioned, a supporting OpenMediaWeb.org web site is forthcoming. I’ll blog its launch.

MWM:RNR FTW!!!!!!!
We’re going to be hosting the first in a series of Media Web Meet-ups at the nest de nouveau next Tuesday, November 13th from 1pm to 3pm.
Check out the Upcoming invite, or head on over to the Facebook event and RSVP.
This first talk is entitled “Rock’n'Rebirth” and will be given by Mike Linksvayer, CTO of Creative Commons. He’s going to be riffing on a variety of topical music issues: Radiohead & Madonna, the rise of DRM-free music stores, and of course, media on the Web and how Creative Commons fits into everything. After his talk, we’ll have a bunch of free and open discussion about the free and open Media Web.
(It’s gonna be a rockin’ event, we’ve got 83 confirmed guests via Facebook, and 30 via Upcoming - but the nest has plenty of room for more, so RSVP and come on by!)

San Francisco Songbirdwatchers:
Thanks to each of you who came and made the Summer Migration Party rock. By our Vibe Manager’s count, we checked over 300 coats and drank four kegs of beer throughout the evening, which extrapolates to 400+ party livers. Everyone I talked to had a great time bike blending margaritas and meeting new and existing friends, peers and ‘bird lovers. Post party pictures to Flickr please.
Thanks especially to the many Mozilla heads who carpooled from Mountain View to attend. Some of my favorite moments were one-on-ones with a few of you. We also appreciated our new neighbors from Creative Commons, Citizen Agency, Red Swoosh, Venture Hacks and others.
Thanks finally for all the interest in Songbird jobs. If you haven’t submitted your resume + cover letter, get on it. Positions are filling up.
Chirps,
Rob
