Nice, thanks. Any plans for FLAC support?

I noticed when you first announced this app that you said that there were no plans to open source, and no plans in the near future to add FLAC support. I was wondering if both these are still the case. I haven’t coded in a long time, but I was going to try to brush up the old skills, and attempt to make this app work better with the new iBasso player: http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=78

That little player is pretty damn capable, with a 32-bit DAC to boot, and a re-written kernel to support hi-res music, but the interface for the stock player is clunky, and I love the interface of the Songbird app, so I wanted to take it upon myself to try to make a build for it, but no dice if you aren’t releasing the source. From what I understand ICS is removing the downsampling that had to be done with high res music, as the Android kernel only supported 16-bit/44 khz. There are kernels out there that work with high res music already, and now all Android will support it.

Long story short, I would love to see support added for hi-res music, FLAC, and if you aren’t going to open source it, I can’t take a crack at that myself, so is there any chance you guys ever will?

    Thanks for the questions everyone!

@ AndiB and Reggie – Songbird for Android will play any file that your device supports. So, if your phone can play a FLAC file at all, it should play through Songbird. What devices are you using?

@ Vince – Thanks for reporting this bug. Strange behavior indeed. We’re looking into it now.

I am using an HTC Incredible S with stock Android 2.3.5 – so no native flac support …
Just for my reasoning: I am using the Songbird Desktop Version, where I rip/encode music to flac. As mp3 is not available for encoding in the desktop version, at least for syncing with the phone, direct flac support for Songbird Android would be great.
