Just in time for the Holidays… we’ve posted an update on the android market that has the following important bug fixes and an enhancement to podcast listings:
- Fixed unexpected playback bug
- Fixed playback control for in-car docking stations and the Atrix Media Dock
- Fixed an issue where the Songbird lockscreen had to be be dismissed before you could answer a call
- Any track that has its genre tagged as “podcast” will appear separately from the music
Your feedback, as always, is welcome. Anyone experiencing bugs is encouraged to contact us at android-support@songbirdnest.com
Enjoy and Happy New Year!

SubscribeI cannot believe that you guys really think that this android app is attractive in appearance. I have been hoping that you would get a grip, but come on man. Purple? coffin? I mean, who is the graphics designer? This simply looks unattractive and goes with absolutely nothing found on an android phone.
Stephen Lau designed this color for the desktop and it has stuck this long to my surprise, but to take it over to android? Come on! Just look around at the other designs. You are using colors/layouts that are ancient and lack class..
What about ratings, smart/dynamic playlists and replaygain? Is it planned?
Desktop support? I refuse to download this app until some desktop support comes forth.
Thanks for this update.
I had given up both desktop and Android versions, but actually, after testing other apps on Android, I think Songbird is about to be the best, for its podcast/audiobook management for instance and for it’s nice look…
Also, the app does not wake me up in the middle of the night anymore (had to uninstall it for that reason. But I’m back now).
Looking forward to some GUI enhancements though, especially for tablets, and even lower CPU consumption…
Haven’t tested the playlist support together with MusicBee (my replacement for Desktop SongBird, sorry!) yet.
Season’s greetings to all
So far so good, Songbird’s sleek and neat navigation appeals to me.
Happy Holidays!
@Vmonk: Yes you are definitely right. I think the people behind songbird forgot that they got so popular with the desktop version and currently it seems for me they don’t give a f*ck about desktop-users.
Only android releases. Even the nightly builds are updated once a month. What the hell is wrong with you guys?? We looked forward to get a pretty cool program and still in 1.10 it feels like BETA in some parts!
Even if there is a common bug with the “white screen” nobody seems to be responsible for this. I am currently using 1.9 because this error sucks bad. You know whats funny? Even if I tell songbird not looking for newer versions it still does and naggs my screen with 1.10…
When I have seen songbird the first time (I’m a user since 0.2) I thought it will raises from the ashes like winamp did…
It really does feel like Songbird has lost its way, and this makes me very sad. More than anything, it feels like they’ve stopped listening to their users, and instead are listening to Highly Paid Consultants. We’re not involved, we’re not informed. We don’t find out about really major decisions (dropping official Linux support is only a small example) until after the fact. Decisions that alienated some of their top contributors.
So when I hear about more mysterious “Big Changes” on the horizon from a guy who’s apparently the new head? And he talks about things like distilling down high-level trends? That the desktop market is dying. And this is both the first and last message from him… with no follow-up from anyone…
Well, go figure that it makes me nervous. I feel like more of those arbitrary decisions are being made. They dropped Linux support without any notice, it’s starting to feel like they could easily drop all desktop support, without any notice.
Maybe these are good, business-savvy decisions… but I sure wouldn’t know that from what I’m finding out here.
Please come back, Songbird. We love you, but we’re tired of being treated like mushrooms.
Songbird is dead …
