We’re happy to announce that Songbird 1.10 is now available! Download it here, or run Check for Updates in your bird to get current.
We turned our sights towards improving device support in this release. Our end goal was to break out of the old erase-and-sync model to create a compelling, intuitive two-way sync experience between your portable device and any number of desktop computers running Songbird. Existing Songbird users will notice there is no longer a distinction between “manually manage” and “automatically sync” — you can choose to use a one-button mechanism to sync playlists or your entire library if you wish, but that does not block you from dragging and dropping individual items between your device and your library, and vice versa. You can now use your portable device to bring a song to your work computer that you downloaded from home, or even to load up something new and awesome from a friend’s laptop to take with you.
We’re excited to get this into everyone’s hands! Let us know how you end up using it. :)

Has there been a submitted 1.10 build for Linux yet? The latest I see on the usual page is still 1.9.3.
excited
) looking very very nice so far…thanks!!!
Hooray
Whoops! Contributed builds page now updated with the 1.10.1 Linux link:
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Developer/Articles/Builds/Contributed_Builds#section_1
Thanks
The most important is to have a thing that runs correctly and it is impossible to blame you for that. So thank you for this 1.10 and let’s have fun with it !
NB : I nearly believe that Songbird will be back on Linux when you wrote in a previous post that you made a beta version for Songbird on Linux.
Oh air-dex, I would dearly love to see that.
Thanks for this long awaited update
All this flexible device management is such a plus over iTunes (without mentioning plenty of other features)!!
After a Songbird release, how long does it take for philips to bring an updated philips songbird?
Is support for the philips devices just as good in the normal songbird?
Since I updated Songbird it seems like my songs are not visible.

Hope you can fix this fast or at least give me a way to solve this problem because I dont want to change my music browser!
Thx and greetings
Still no podcasting support, no podcatcher functionality. Still not an Itunes replacement.
When I start songbird on Win7 it comes up with a white box instead of music? Like you have to click on ‘music’ under Library to actually see anything. The search bar changes from the 7 store to searching library so it might be some broken 7 store thing?
Hey when is podcasting going to come? I’d love a wifi podcast sync for my phillips gogear.
YAY! And I love the idea behind the synch – I’ll definitely give you some feedback on how I actually wind up using it.
After I beat on it for a few days, I’ll be updating my PortableApps version, which is what I use all the time. Presuming, of course, PortableApps has started in on it. Hope so, it’s the best music player they’ve got.
And, as always, THANK YOU for continuing to build Linux.
Just FYI, I have been having the same problem as Harry Chapman since the beta.
working smoothly no glitch at all. Thx Songbird ^^
Um. Where did the library file organizer tool go? It seems to have disappeared. This is frustrating. I rely on this feature.
Tree days ago i evalueted Songbird as my new musicplayer thanks to his nice interface and his mediamanagement function.
Today i upgrade and i’m left behind with with just a nice interface, NO mediamanagement anymore, thas bad, so byebye birdie…..
It seems that songbird now displays what you selected previously (music library or playlists) on startup, and so the white box appears on the first run as there was nothing selected previously?
Thanks for the update!
But what’s happened to the Manage Music Folder option? I do hope it’s not been removed?
With the removal of the Media Manager I will be staying on songbird 1.9.x. This feature is the #1 reason I use songbird and not just a folder of music. Please bring it back or give us an add-on option!
I agree. If the Music Manager is not added back, I will be switching to another player.
I’m just returning to Songbird after a long time to see if it’s now good enough for what I need. Where did the Songbird forum go?
The songbird forum is now on getsatisfaction.com
about the missing manage file option, check out the Tagger add on which should be made compatible again soon – i have asked the dev already. It gives the same dunctionality in a semi automatic mode, with more control on whats going on. Plua tons of tag related features
Joseph, fox, Chad, and Joe: The removal of Manage Music was a tough decision for us, but it’s one that we ultimately feel was in the best interest of the product as a whole. We simply did not implement it well from the outset and did not have the resources to fix all of its flaws. We posted a more thorough response to Get Satisfaction a while ago: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/topics/automatic_file_folder_management_being_replaced_dropped_or_coming_back_in_a_later_2_x_release
I’ll reiterate what I said there, which is that we’re sorry we had to remove a feature that you found valuable. We simply couldn’t figure out how to make it a feature that worked for the greater good of the vast majority of our users.
seba: Philips’ release schedule is not coupled with ours for this release, so to the best of our knowledge, they don’t have a corresponding 1.10 release coming out anytime soon (e.g. before the end of the year) for Philips GoGear customers. Regular Songbird has none of the Philips device integration (firmware updates and transcoding support) that you’ll get from Philips’ build, so there are reasons to stick with what you have from them.
Tupi: That’s… odd. Did it resolve itself with a restart? If not, the quickest solution is to erase and rescan your library. You may want to try disabling add-ons before you go that far — there’s a Safe Mode option in the start menu that will help you disable them all in one go.
Sam, Harry Chapman: Does the problem go away if you disable the 7digital search widget? Click on the icon in the search widget, choose “Manage Search Engines…”, and remove 7digital from the resulting list. We haven’t seen this in-house so I’m just basing this guess off what Harry mentioned.
> The songbird forum is now on getsatisfaction.com
Where? There’s no search facility. How would anyone know it had moved? Why has Songbird done that? It diminishes the community.
Never mind. I just spent an hour playing with Songbird and it’s still nowhere near good enough – slow, clunky, limited, poor interface. I’ll stick with J.River Media Center… who do have a forum and active community!
@Ali: I don’t have that installed/enabled, the only search I have is ‘Songbird’ … But I get that white screen on every startup and have to change to ‘Music’ or a playlist manually…

klint
Thanks – but it rather proves my point… last replies ’1 year ago’, ’1 month ago’, ’8 months ago’.
If the Songbird team wanted to kill community participation, they’ve achieved their goal. Sad.
@Danito
You’re right but that is for the posts marked as “FAQ”. Rather try this URL here: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/topics
This is the living blog, as you’ll see.
Community not dead, punk!
Started using…
After making a playlist, filtering it then go browse the library… Come back to playlist, filter is reset!!! All tracks messed up! FFFFUUUUU!!!!
Any solutions, please?
Will this ever be fixed?
Thx.
SB 1.10 is not an option as long as there is no Manage File available. O.k. there are some flaws in the Manage File but I could live with it.
@Ali yeah disabling 7 digital store search does seem to fix it. Weird
@ali
“Does the problem go away if you disable the 7digital search widget?”
No, that doesn’t resolve it for me. Win 7 x64 here.
^^^ nevermind. it does resolve the issue for me. i seem to be confused everytime i comment on this blog lol
Is someone going to do something about so many of the add-ons not working?
e.g. Two useful looking ones that should probably be part of the main product.
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/96
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1309
Uhh I think that disabling the 7 digital store search does fix it… but when I restart the computer it tends to re-enable the search and break it again?
heads up, whatever you guys did to syncing completely breaks playlist syncing. Now the only way for me to get a playlist to sync is to drag and drop it onto the device every time. Trying to sync one automatically via the device manager screen makes it immediately say “completed syncing device” despite not syncing anything. Doesn’t matter if it’s adding or removing songs in the sync at hand. So yeah, minor fix.
Also, it really sucks that media management has been removed. It was a mandatory feature for me, and now I don’t really have a good reason to open Songbird instead of Spotify. Make sure and let us know if an add-on that re-enables it gets added in. I’d really like to have the feature back.
I agree with rougegoat.
The only reason I preferred songbird over iTunes (or, god forbid, Samsung Kies which my phone likes…) was the media management. And Samsung Kies is a really clunky crappy program
If someone knows of a bit of software – be it a Songbird addon, another music player or a standalone FolderCleanUp.exe thing – that does the same, please let me know!
No new music for me until then, I can’t be bothered manually sorting and renaming 58gb of music.
For the love of god just make it optional and an Advanced Setting instead of removing it
I thought I’d found the holy grail.
Check the Tagger addon, it has a file management feature.
Guys, I love songbird but since I updated to the latest version, it’s stopped playing half my music, it all appears okay but just wont start playing the songs!!
Please sort this out really soon cos i don’t wanna go back to iTunes!!
People with the WMA playback problem: we have no idea what’s causing it, nor can we reproduce it in-house, but we’re hoping that some changes made to gstreamer will fix the issue for you. Have a look-see at http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=25019#c3 for instructions and a patchypatch to test-drive for us. If you do give it a whirl, please let us know whether it did or did not fix the problem on your machine.
I am also very disappointed about the removal of media management. I will now began the search for a better media player and may move back to itunes.
bye bye bye!
guys, ladies..you better fix the wma playback thing..and what is up with the blank white foreground color everytime I open the program instead of them just showing my libraries or last played playlist…and please just please make now playing list a feature not an add-on..for me a simple user wanting to play flac files, all the newer updates of songbird seems to break a few useful things everytime..why??
btw..tried the WMA patch you gave us..didn’t even want to play..last time it was just a matter of restarting songbird..didn’t fix it permanently though..so please don’t make me look for another player now..
“Now playing” has been a feature for some months already. Check your right pane.
same problem here. i know that there is a built-in now playing feature yet but i’d rather use the old “live play queue” or “now playing list” add-on because functionality is not the same. i’d like songs to be added automatically to the play queue when being double-clicked in the library!
so could somebody please update the old add-ons?
would be great!
@klint
okay my bad..i admit it (always thought i still have the addon installed
) but as “jeng” said features aren’t d same as the old addon… okay anyway please fix the wma thing thanks!
This used to be my favorite program, but since I started using it it has only gotten worse.
Today I updated to 10.10 and now almost every song is gone.
Unfortunately a lot of the really good plugin writers bailed on Songbird when they stopped officially supporting Linux. I don’t know if we’re ever going to get some of those fantastic additions updated, now.
Not everybody has left though, and there are still very good and living addons (look at MLyrics for instance). Other old addons have new maintainers.
But it is true that many devs were developing on Linux (which is not surprising).
And by the way, with the comments feature still switched off after some months on the addon pages, it is not easy to communicate with the community. Hence even less motivation for the devs I guess. Too bad.
Been a songbirder since beta…now I’m lookin’ for a new player, I’ve reinstalled 10 times songbird and still I have this problem http://twitpic.com/7eruft I even bought several stickers..thanks for everything songbird team…GOODBYE
Setting songbird.firstrun.load_ml_in_background to false may solve the blank library problem at start up. I’ve set it and have no problem so far.
@Fico: looks to me as if you just have accidentally hidden your service pane…did you try to resize it (move mouse to left screen margin)? Would be a pity if you left songbird for nothing.
It doesn’t work. It can open and play a song but around minute 2 the markers stops working and at the end of the song it simply freezes and nothing else happens.
The previous versions worked just fine. Help.
Is there something for Songbird like the “Add-on Compatibility Reporter” add-on for Firefox, that would allow to keep older add-ons active and at least try to see if they still work ?
@Klint, Tagger sounds like it’d be a good fix, but it isn’t compatible with this version of Songbird. So still in the same situation until an update for that.
@manuel and @rougegoat,
about compatibility, check my post here: http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2011/11/04/whats-next/comment-page-1/#comment-76856
Nice software but without proper compilation handling (as itunes provides it since 6 years) it is totally useless for me. sorry.
