Songbird 1.10b3 is available!

By ali ali Permalink

Hello! We fixed a few additional bugs from our previous beta 2 build for the Songbird Desktop client. A full run-down of those bugs is available in the Release Notes. Those of you with the b2 build will be able to update to b3 using the Check for Updates mechanism in the application. Shiny new 1.10.0b3 installers (yes, including the Linux installer) are up on the Nightly Builds page.

Developers: documentation on the new Playlist Commands interface is available and posted here on our wiki: http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Developer/Recipe_Book/Extensions_and_Core/Playlist_Buttons_(aka_Playlist_Commands). Let us know if you run into questions or concerns.

Let’s communicate! Bugzilla! Get Satisfaction! Yay!

Update gets stuck at the “The selected installation folder contains an older version of Songbird. Do you wish to uninstall it and replace it with Songbird 1.10.0b3″ dialogue window. Clicking yes simply reloads the dialogue window. Windows 7 64 bit, upgrading from 1.9.3. Let me know if you need more.

Also, when are we going to see Windows 7 features like jump lists and snap? Most other players have had these things for a while… just saying.

I also have several important (at least to me) bugs that do not appear on the release notes page or in Bugzilla that I know were in Bugzilla at some point (I might submit them again at some point if I can get some assurance that they will be fixed). Ye Olde slow start-up (along with the interface problems that occur when Songbird freezes at start-up, often for 15-20m seconds) as well as a problem where Songbird stops playback when skipping back on shuffle, to be exact. Any chance these are on the radar and I am missing them? If I resubmit them will they be addressed?

    Thanks.

Update: Clicking “No”, then “No” again in the “Are you sure you want to cancel installation” dialogue window allowed me to proceed. Looks like the old version was already uninstalled by the previous “Only one version…” dialogue window and this caused the new version to loop.

    *dialogue window, not version. Sorry…

I read a lot about the new two-way sync feature and decided to install the Beta3 version to test the feature. Unfortunately, I could not get my portable drive Western Digital Elements hard drive to occur in Songbird (my HTC phone does so). Are external hard drives not supposed to be supported by the sync feature? If they are, how do I get them to occur in songbird? I already tried to force the “Manage device with Songbird” autoplay feature, but nothing pops up when connecting the drive.
    Any suggestions?

I just wanted to say I love your application as an itunes alternative for my non apple pmp’s, but it so slow and crashes so much i uninstall it every time. My computer is quad core 3 gb ram so that is not the issue. Can it not handle large libraries?

    Nice to see updates coming.

    Install worked fine.
On first load it had to rescan the library – weird.

    Everything else seems in order.
    Cheers!

Continued love for including the Linux installer, thank you. :)

I’ll be checking this one out tonight, hope my special case-sensitive-path duplication issue is among those fixed… I’ll let you know!

Can you please add the functionality to correctly handle Compilation albums, such as their grouping in the ‘Artist’ in the Column Browser in iTunes?

A suggested workaround is to add ‘Various’ to the Album Artist tag, but this isn’t a proper solution because many of us with many compilations still have our Artist list jammed with hundreds of artists, and the directory management does not group the album into a single directory such as in iTunes under Library/Compilations/…

I have over one-hundred compilations and this single feature has blocked me from using Songbird.

Grrrrr. The spam is even here. Clever, Procera, but still link-spam.

I’d like to echo what Ivan said.

Compilation support is kind of a big deal. I’ve been waiting years for this feature to be added. I even voted for the issue in bugzilla.

Does nobody who uses Songbird have compilation albums in their library? Having a zillion artists with just one track makes scanning through the artist list a chore. Why aren’t more people requesting this?

Since “Manage Music Folder” has been removed, how are we supposed to manage our files and folders? What is the workflow for adding mp3′s to the Songbird music folder that were ripped with iTunes (and are in the iTunes music folder)? This is really a PITA.

BTW: When will there finally be ripping to mp3 and burning to CD?

    Status of Songbird 1.10b3:

    - Does NOT create folders and file names based on song and album names (AKA “Manage Music Folder)

    - Does NOT rip CDs to mp3 (there is not even an add-on for this)

    - Does NOT burn to CD

    - Does NOT sync Playlists to Android phones

    Conclusion:
All the main functions I would use Songbird for are absent. Songbird is virtually useless for me.

Manage Music Folder -> removed because of creating mess with people music files (not being tag properly I guess)

Rip CD to MP3 : mp3 is patented, you should use FLAC or Ogg

Burn to CD -> Come on, we are in 2011. Use a digital player with USB Key/SD and Flac codec is pretty good.
