Songbird 1.10.0b2 is Available!

By ali ali Permalink

We’ve squashed quite a few bugs since our initial 1.10 beta and we’re ready for you to take another look.  There’s nothing new to highlight in this version aside from the fact that, overall, it’s better than the last beta.  :)   Again, our major focus for the 1.10 release is a complete overhaul of how we transfer and manage music on your portable devices; more details are available in this blog post if you’re curious about what we’ve changed and why.

You can download beta 2 from our Nightly Builds page.  If you’re already running Songbird 1.10.0b1, just go to your Help menu and run “Check for Updates.”  Take a look at the Release Notes if you’d like to see what’s left open and what we’ve fixed since the last beta.

Bug reports can be submitted via Bugzilla, or if it’s easier, just get in touch with us on Get Satisfaction.

Any chance the Roadmap will see some love? I understand that updating documents isn’t as cool as hacking on the desktop/android clients, but it would be nice to see what the plans are.

Thanks for SB, btw, it’s awesome.

Since you’re doing away with the ‘Manage Files’ rename-and-move feature, and you explicitly recommend against making your ‘watch’ folder the same as your main music folder…

Can you please, please, please make Songbird smarter about scanning for new stuff in your main music folder?

With the current release, if you add a bunch of music to your main folder, there is NO WAY to add it to your library, without painstakingly finding each and every file and adding it manually.

I should be able to just ‘Add Files’ at the root level of the music folder, and have it -only- add files that don’t already exist in the database.

As it is, if you do that, you get 100% duplication – 2 copies of everything, with the exact same path/filename (which should be the filtering clue) – with half having all the database info (ratings, in playlists, etc), the other half being brand new naked entries.

Seriously. When adding files, if the drive:/path/filename already exists in the main library… skip it. Simple, painless, essential.

@ckempo Soon! We’re working on it. Promise.

@Not Nobody We don’t have any plans to do that ourselves, but it could be done with an add-on.

@Stefan You should be using Philips Songbird with your device. Our build is not designed for your device’s needs.

@gryphon That was a lingering bug, not an intentional “feature.” I’m pretty sure we’ve fixed it. Holler loudly if it still shows up for you in a subsequent beta.

I have wanted to migrate to Songbird for about a year now. But it still doesn’t properly group Compilation albums as iTunes ‘Part of Compilation’ grouping feature? This is a serious oversight for users with many compilations (and an Artists list that is unusably large.)

@Ivan Brugere: In my experience, just assign ‘Various Artists’ or whatever you prefer as the ‘Album Artist’ in the metadata and problem solved.

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Really. I would stop the development and recode the whole damn thing. Don’t you see it’s bad performance… scrolling in the changelog/news windows is choppy as hell on a brand new PC. I can’t believe it. Sorry, folk. I gave songbird several chances but I give up now. I’ll stick to iTunes. Although I hate Apple’s policies, iTunes, at least does what I want and need and has no problem at all when I scroll 1700 image covers.
    Close down this project….

Is it possible to incorporate mediaflow or some thing like it into Songbird. The MediaFlow extension is rarely updated and doesn’t work in the new beta version.

Hey, just wanted to give public props to @Aus for sending me a beta a while back, to test my annoying database-duplication error. It’s so close to fixed I can taste it… it’s probably only going to be an issue for people with older databases, particularly ones where ‘Manage Files’ was used with a portable drive. Fortunately (?) that’s the case with mine.

This is why I hate case sensitivity. P:\ should parse just like p:\
