This release has been a long time coming, and there’s been a lot of work and juggling to get this across the finish line. The time and effort is being well-spent, though. There are a ton of great development efforts going on at Pioneers of the Inevitable, and a lot of process improvements, too. We are working to accelerate the way we work with both the community and our partners to focus on delivering value faster, incorporating feedback in a more proactive way, and really letting our vision for Songbird sing. Look for more direct outreach as we move forward with the product!
The team is really cranking hard on the platform, and we have a lot to look forward to, going forward.
Check out where we’re headed on the roadmap, and let us know your thoughts.
Update: Linux versions (unsupported) are here.

Whoops! Sorry, we just fixed permissions on that page.
where is the Linux version ?
Links to linux builds have been updated in the post. Thanks for catching that, Erik! (I’m new here).
Congrats on the release. New service pane looks good and great to have MSC support on Mac.
Sorry, you lost me with too many none working plug-ins and ignorant developers not responding at all to any questions / bugs.
I’m now enjoying Plex 9. And testing XBMC 10 beta. Nice stuff. I also like the grey iTunes 10.
This is not meant as a bashing: I really tried for a few weeks. Got on IRC and GetSatisfaction wrote a lot of posts but the feedback was underwhelming.
Good luck with your further development. I hope 1.8 open quicker than 15 seconds and the view change is faster than 10. That would be a real improvement…

IS BROKEN…
@ Marcelo – it looks like we’re re-loading the tarballs for the linux builds. Sorry for the hiccup!
@ Mike – I’ll go look for your comments in Get Satisfaction.

THE SCRIPT DOES NOT WORKS
OK rand, I’M waiting for the link…
@ Marcelo – the 64 bit link is working again.
@Marcelo:
The link on the wiki page has been updated; I made a small typo.
Guess I need to cut down on the scotch-intake during the release push

Build Dude
Congrats and thank you…. Loads and play on my machine in 5-6 SECONDS, and I have a many addons.. Seemed like 20 seconds or more before this release.
Actually, have loaded in even less seconds than i stated above and that is with last track resume continuing the song as soon as it resumes plus mash tape running. Whatever you guys did, at least for me, it is very good.
Cheers!!!
Still very slow in UI changes and searching – it seems basically the same crapiness as the last beta. Maybe a bit faster in switching between playlists.
But I don’t see mention of any performance related changes in the changelog so I guess not.
Mac version we’re talking here. 8227 items.
Is anybody else having trouble getting Songbird 1.8 to show the full screen? When I load Songbird, I only see the top horizontal bar, and cannot view my library or playlists. This is the first time I have ever had this problem, and I just upgraded to the newest version of Songbird. I have tried maximizing the window and that doesn’t help.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit.
It seems that Apple might have changed the iTunes protocol in the new iTunes released just yesterday: the iTunes importer only imported about half of the songs in my library. Luckily, it’s organized and easy to add by folder. Just a heads up.
Otherwise, seems slightly better than beta 3 in startup time. Glad to see you guys are still working. Keep going.

Same here !!!
Help …
Hi Ali,
I’ve been trying to get in touch with you for a potential partnership in India. Could you please get back so that we may talk further.
Thank You
Songbird 1.8 feels faster which is very good. I do not care about most new features, but I really appreciate more speed/stability. Thanks for that
By the way: The following wiki pages still got permission problems:
http://linkio.us/KAQMmO
How does performance compare to 1.4.3? I only care about stability and speed and after considering Songbird dead I switched over to MusicBee.
Thanks for the update. Seems to be faster now
But I found 2 things:
1) when I close a maximized SB, it is opened as normal window but with full screen size on next start (Win Vista)
2) I mentioned this several times before: In German the “7digital Store” still has to be “7digital Store”… “7digital Lagern” means to stack 7digital…
Also have th eproblem in Windows 7 64-bit where Songnbird is just a horizontal bar – I can’t adjust the height at all. Changing feathers does not fix this.
congrats on 1.8! on windows, I’ve been running the betas for some time and liked them a lot better than 1.7.x. (you lost me on the linux platform where i switched to banshee.)
as to the roadmap: where is podcast support in 1.9? my understanding is hundreds and hundreds of users have requested this feature…
Working Shoutcast, please?
@rand look for posts by “hop hop”. cheers (at least one responce…)
Still slow in Filter Pane View. MediaMonkey will prevail.
Looking forward to trying this out. Any idea when it’ll get passed to PortableApps?
Until Songbird lets me control where my library database lives, PortableApps is the only way I use it anymore.
Those with Windows 7 64-bit horizontal bar issue: right click to mini player and then right click back to full player. Seems to be a work around for now.
Well this version is less crashy and hangs less.
And you removed the barely functional ability to add podcast subcriptions?
I guess I’ll try it again this time next year.
If u could find someway to incorporate podcasts and radiotime.com into main without the need of extensions that would be nice too. These two features would make songbird once again worth trying out. Till then…
WTF!… album artwork still missing in my computer (Windows 7 32-bit), also you need to redesign the skin, delete and relocate some elements to make it simpler and easier, please.
Using the linux_64 build (unsupported I know…). Is the video player broken? Importing flv videos worked in 1.7.3 but now just opens the file in movie player. Am I doing something wrong?
Isn’t Songbird dead yet?
@ LinuxUsr&SongbirdHtr – nope! In fact, we’re feeling much better these days. Thanks for asking, though!
What is the future for native apps upon the transition to new internet OS’s and the ‘cloud’? With the launch of iPAD and soon Android tablets, the shift has already begun. I will be missing SB on my first tablet. Do you have any thoughts on that?
Still the Mac Multimedia Keys arent working. Thats the only reason i still use 1.4.3 until it is integrated or the addon is finally updated (it hasnt been for a year or so…)
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1408
@KingLear
We have some surprises for those two scenarios coming in 2011.
Chris: Good point, I miss the Mac Multimedia Keys in Songbird, too.
The workaround proposed by stevedog for the horizontal bar issue in Win-7 (64-bit) does not work for me. I can’t see the Songbird window, rendering the software entirely useless. C’mon guys, this is a pretty serious bug.
@dadrivr
We’re trying to track down that issue but we haven’t had any luck reproducing it. It would be nice if someone which is running into this problem could log a bug with as much info about the Songbird version they were running before they upgraded including all add-ons and feathers installed. This will help us a lot in tracking down the problem.
Performance is lackluster. I could care less for most of the features. No response to my feedback. Staying with Media Monkey can’t use something that is slower then itunes!
I can’t even use the new version. It freezen a few seconds after I start it up. Win7x64
@Aus
I just added a bug for the problem:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=22221
The new update really works good for me.
But i have a question. Is there any way to sort the Playlists.
I have a lot of playlists and i want them in alphabetical order. I havent found a way to do that.
Would be great if anyone could help me.
Windows 7 64 bit (newer laptop, specs fine)
just upgraded to 1.8, but seem to have several issues:
1) full screen will not show up. In some instances, trying to get a full screen will only show the very top portion akin to a title bar
2) after several songs, RAM use accumulates and eventually makes songbird (and everything else) unresponsive… prompting CPU use to skyrocket from avg. 80% full time.
3) general slowness I have come to deal with, but this version seems to be even more slow to switch lists, find songs.
I am just about to jump ship. I love the product and y’all have done well, but… it just seems silly to have the music, but no player.
Windows 7 64bits
Very very slow!!! unusable for me!!!
So I noticed that somehow between Beta3 and official, the CD rip feature has decided that two tracks = full album. Just figured I’d give a heads up(tried on 32bit Win and 64bit Win, different machines and different CDs)
er, specifically, it will not rip a track that isn’t track number 1 or track number 2.
double er, I opened a disc up in Windows Media Player on a whim to see if it was a series of bad discs/drives and it suddenly started working just fine in Songbird. So I guess ignore those two up there?
Nice, now I can rip cd with songbird on Win 7 64 bits. What I’m missing :
- playing CD, come on, I’d like to use just one software to play ALL my music;
- podcasts come back!
Keep up!!
Very very slow!!! unusable for me!!!
Adding songs to a playlist by drag’n'drop freezes the system up and takes ~7 seconds… that’s a long time. Haven’t checked for a bug. Should probably do that.
That said, love the redesign, just wish communication (blog posts) came a little more regularly. Is once a week too much to ask for?
Oh and here’s another vote for:
#1 – Podcasts
#2 – Burn CD
Just saying.
If we’re voting, I also think it’s lame that Songbird can rip tracks from a cd but not play them directly or burn to them.
@Loren: I’ll let the devs speak for themselves, but I’d be annoyed by having to do a blog update every single week. Case in point: while I enjoyed Laura’s birdbaths, towards the end of her her run the weekly updates were often more lunch-related than program-related.
Just installed version 1.8.0 on Widows 7 64bit
Unfortunately, I have to say that thiss update is buggy : 30 seconds (yes !) to load (as compared to 10-15 seconds with 1.4.3) and the following error ” mainWinInitjs – SBinitialize – ReferenceError : windowPlacementSanityChecks is not defined ”
After clicking OK, the main bar is not here (File – Edition, …).
So, i am going back to previuos version.
Which is slow, very slow.
I am currently searching for an alternative to Songbird (not iTunes) … and I a m sad for this nice project which is not enough supported by Mozilla.
As expected, this version isn’t working on linux anymore. 1.7 was working on the same system.
Bug: I can’t play a single music file because of some error in the codec part. So it seems that songbird does not want to work with the system codec.
Also a lot plugins are released for that version.
So this was the last version and since all features I want are integrated in other players, I don’t need songbird. Also songbird does not even support all the featues I use.
I downloaded the new version 1.8 for the Mac and it still is buggy and seems to be doing the same thing as when it was in beta. After playing two or three songs from my library it stop and I have click fast forward to restart. Quite frustrating That is a deal breaker for me Please tell me you all are working on this bug
Songbird 1.8:
* Still no RIP to mp3
* Still no BURN to CD
* Still getting duplicates and ghosts all over the place.
hey!
Is there a version for s60 5th edition Nokia’s? Like nokia 5800.
Thanks
@Gandalf – I’m using this (Songbird 1.8) on Ubuntu Linux 10.04 and music files work fine so I don’t think it’s Songbird.
Video files on the other hand do nothing (worked fine in 1.7.3) they don’t import at all no matter what format. Is this a known bug/just linux specific or is there a workaround/fix?
How come Songbird doesn’t sync with the HTC Incredible but it does with the Evo and other HTC android phones??
Still as slow as the betas.
Pretty unusable for me.
I just thought I should leave this here since I can’t find any forums..
Number 1
It’s sort of ridiculous Songbird dropped their support for the ipod plugins – I did some QUICK research today, and found, not 1, not 2, but 4 applications that all support transfering of songs to and from ipods, some even supported the iphone, and some went all the way to include full conversion support (Floola being the best, portable and highly supported program by far).
I think you should work on bringing back ipod support in the next release, and work with the Floola or many other developers that have made it happen. This is EASY if we all just work together!
very slow.win 7 32bit
Hi
Congrats on this release. But i would like to agree with ” mike “. But I’m sticking with songbird because i haven’t given up hope. I love song bird & i want it to fly too
. Just to give u one small example: It’s wired to face with such a microscopic problem on songbird as “No Apple Keyboard Media Key Support”. there use to be a add-on by the name ” Apple Keyboard Media Key Support” but its not been updated for more than a year, last seen on version 1.6. And just to let u know how irritating it is to have such simple feature not built into songbird, I’m posting some links. Hope some one take care of this n there r more like this.

Regard
+ 1 for podcast.
Vista / no addons / EXTREMELY slow to change artists, album and songs. At least a 3 second pause after each click – I did not use any of the betas and did not have this problem earlier w/the previous version. Pretty much unusable in this state, going to try and roll back the previous version.
As awesome as some of these newer features are, I think you guys should hold back for a release and instead focus on speed. I’m not personally bothered by it at all, but it’s fairly obvious that a lot of people are. If you guys could just work on that(be it start up or sort or whathaveyou) and maybe one or two other things instead, it’d be a much more successful release. Think “Leopard -> Snow Leopard” more than “Vista -> 7″. Though I’d like to play music from a CD or have better metadata editing(I constantly get errors where the file isn’t updated for one reason or another)…
Also, thanks for the release. I tip my hat to you guys who release good software without charging me a dime. Others(see: above) should probably remember that before they get demanding….
As much as I love Songbird, it being my media player of choice, there is still a long way to go. Notably performance, performance, performance. I would really prefer a speedier experience rather than a raft of new features.
I have also been experiencing the same bugs for years now, which seem to have been ignored. Annoying. I’ll go post another bug report.
Really disappointed in some of these new updates. Yeah the new features are great, but it’s crazy slow on both of my windows instillations.
@mahmoud – I’m agree with you
Add a song to a playlist takes a long time!
Also, how I can refresh the album artwork of the songs? because I’ve changed some covers and they doesn’t show updated?
Any idea?
and please, focus on speed!!
- At least three albums that were fine on 1.7.x aren’t showing any artist/title etc info
- Sorting seems to be slower than on 1.7.x
- Startup seems somewhat slower than on 1.7.x
Every release (been using SB since 0.8ish) seems to introduce new problems and slower performance. Now I’ve had enough. So long and thanks for all the fish!

well, this is ridiculous – had no problems AT ALL with the betas, but I don’t have the official 1.8 for even a week and its messed up. Crashed out of the blue and now, when I click on a song to play after the restart, it plays that song only – won’t play anything else I click on and repeats that first song – despite the fact that it isn’t set to repeat anything. I’ve restarted it 3 times now and it still does the same thing. I’ll go right over to put this on GetSatisfaction, but I find it very irritating that the only time I have a serious problem, its with the official release, no the beta builds
whoops, that’s “not”
First I have to say I love Songbird so much, because it’s like iTunes almost, but I dont’t want to have iTunes on my pc. And I love the Add-on-function, too. But since the new version is installed, my music sounds extremely quiet, I have to use another mediaplayer to hear music as usual. By the way I can’t see the full Songbird menu. Please bring the ipod support back and support cd ripping to mp3 and playing mp4 for the next releases, too!!
Thanks for your wonderful work.
Because I know you guys hear a lot of complaints/issues, I just wanted to say thank you for offering this for free! It works great for me and I’m always anxious for each new release.
All disagreements about direction aside, I believe that the developers deserve congratulations for their accomplishment. The bird has come a long ways.
For those who complain about performance/new features, you can always install an old version. I’m still sporting 1.4.3, and don’t plan on upgrading any time soon.
Poop here again – rolled back to 1.7.3 after full 1.8 uninstall / deleted db’s and reimported my MP3′s (~30k or so) and it took about 30 minutes.
Full uninstall (including reboots and CCleaner) of 1.7.3 and another install of 1.8 / deleted db’s and did another import of the same MP3′s – 5 hrs and counting…
I can see progress because the file size changes every once in a while (the app has long been ‘Not Responding’ so everything is white on it).
Curious as to how it will take to finish, however once it’s done – it’s coming off again.
For those Mac users that want a no-nonsense fast player with some media management, check out Clementine: http://www.clementine-player.org/
It’s surprisingly good, very fast, and actively developed. There’s a RC of the latest version available as well that has device support.
Better native streaming support out-of-the-box would be fantastic.. ie. outside of ShoutCast/adding my own streams; DirectTune is broken (errors when trying to switch streams) and doesn’t use stream id3 data. Other than that I’m still not seeing anything stellar here: Load time is crazy long compared to other media players and the feature-set doesn’t make up for it.
Guys good job on the release. The feature set is expanding rapidly. I believe though that you should focus on working out the performance and stability issues first. Especially searching and browsing through the library. The next step is to add some more codec support. Licensing is probably the issue here but I think this is the key step in gaining more users in the community. Not having things like .mpg is really unacceptable in a video player. The big bugs I have are incorrect album art being displayed and mixed up as well as duplication and re-addition of songs I have deleted from my library in watched folders.
Great! SHOUTcast is back with the 1.8
Definitely a step up from version 1.4.3! I just want to say thanks for continuing to develop this media player, it still serves me well.
Also I don’t see what the huge qualm about performance is about, it seems much snappier than 1.4.3, at least on Mac OS X.
Insanley buggy on Win 7 ! Still no CUE support :/
Interesting
,
but I think it’s more interesting to add support to some media servers, like mediatomb or the mediaservers embedded in Windows, than adding support to a few dispositives.
But that’s only an opinion :p .
Very disappointed, it’s very slow and completely unstable. A basic search in medial library freezes the program.
wow this is horrible, can i roll back?
Pretty much unusable on my Macbook pro. Please please please prioritise speed increases!
Just tried Songbird for the first time because I really can’t stand iTunes for a number of reasons. And I was very excited for all the features of Songbird until I tried to install the iPod synch add-on with this Songbird only to find I can’t use Songbird and my iPod Classic. There’s really no point to me having this software if I have to keep iTunes to synch through – regardless of who’s programing security this lies with, its a deal breaker. Especially when the website is so full of compatibility claims (come-on there’s even a gadgets tab…at least tell me there I can’t use the most popular mp3 out there). Sorry, without that feature, Songbird is useless for me.
Yep for me the same..I started using songbird by accident on a RC version of Windows7 and was so amazed by the features……but mostly because of the speed..I was in love..it started instantly and selection was like a well oiled machine…….
No longer
…please please put that back..why don’t you love me anymore!!
was it something I said was it something I did….was I too greedy…….just start when I click on you….
My computer could launch space ships , but if songbird was the control panel…
Bought a Philips vibe yesterday. Going to return it tommorrow because of sync problems in supported songbird and no mp3 in 1.8.
This sucks. i was a Philips fan but this product sucks. How can you sell something that doesn’t work 100%???
I think you should hurry with the upgrade to XULRunner 2.0 beta or at least 1.9.2.x, hopefully Songbird will be faster.
@felixdegee
Are you sure you are using Philips Songbird and not the standard Songbird release? The second one doesnt support encoding to MP3 while the first one does (but maybe it’s not 1.8.0 yet). Specific addons have been included into the Philips Songbird that you can’t have in standard one.
So, stick whichever last version of Philips Songbird there is and don’t switch to standard Songbird.
I got the horizontal bar problem, Windows 7 64-bit. And switching to mini-player and then back to main player doesn’t work for me. Looks like I’ll switch back down to 1.7.3
There’s this bug that remains even on 1.8 –
After the end of a song it skips to a random middle of the next song.
On mac os 10.4.11 .
Wish you guys could solve the problem.
Love the sound quality of the program compared to iTunes.
Could u please add a feature so that songbird 1.8 or above version can support MAC media key.
it is so inconvenient when i want to switch songs.
When can we expect a PODCAST DIRECTORY as in iTunes?
kindly i want to know how the MP3 SONGBIRD AFTER THAT ENJOY THE MUSIC HOW TO BE CLOSED WHICH BOTTOM I MUST USE PLEASE GIVE DETAILS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Can anyone tell why songbird is soooo f***ing slow on OSX. I can’t even play a couple of songs in sequence. I mean i really like songbird its really a great piece of software. But it’s all worthless if it can’t to whats the minimum requirement for a media player!!! Witch is playing audio/video as good as possible and gapless!!!!!
cheers!
oh, I forgot my system is a one year old iMac!!!!
Good bye Songbird!
It was nice meeting you. I had really good hopes that you could be the one, the love of my life.
I was not very demanding was I? All I wanted was a damn fast music player with support for FLAC, OGG and MP3 file formats and a good music library management. You almost made it. Except that you were not very responsive to my commands and kept beachballing even for the simplest tasks. And sometimes you made duplicates or did not write modified metadata back to my files. I have the impression that you wanted to impress me with all the fancy features. I trusted you, Songbird 1.4.3. I trusted you that some day, one of your newer versions will be reliable and stable partner with rock solid core functionality. I kept on trying new version and tolerated your flaws and kept my hopes up. But you got me wrong. I am not impressed by fancy make-up. I am a traditional guy, I am impressed with the inner beauty and stable personality.
But now my patience has ended. New versions bring new features and new bugs. Why? Oh why you, my beloved Songbird, DID NOT CARE to build a good foundation before adding all the fancy features that the majority doesn’t need.
With tears in my eyes, I shall leave you and once again start looking for a good candidate to build a long-lasting relationship with.
Sincerely,
Me
Is nobody else having problems importing videos? It just asks me to select a program to open the application with every time I try. Anyone know what’s going on?
I want to repeat everything that rougegoat said. People should be grateful this is free. Speed is the main issue for me. I don’t trust the application with my 750Gbs of music files and am still using windows media player since it handles large amounts of media very well. I will continue to periodically check each month to see if there is an update and will test it out. I consider the application to still be a beta and this may well be the case until V3.0 is released. I’m patient and I still see the potential that this application has so keep going crew and don’t give up. I’ve tested loads of different media playback programs and this, although it doesn’t work fully for my needs, keeps tugging me towards it
Like so many others, I want my music player to be fast and reliable. I can’t believe you release a version that takes several seconds to perform the most basic actions, -like searching the music library!
I have 13.000 tracks. Any fairly decent database engine should be able to search this in milliseconds while Im typing in the search bar.
It seems we are many who had hopes for songbird. And it seems many will abandon the product because of the speed issue.
Don’t ever release a version with a huge bug like this if you care about your users!
Forget it, as well 1.8.0 is still unusable slow if you have a bit more music!
1.9 current nightly builds already show an impressive improvement in the search performance on large libraries.
@klint
Thanks!
We’ve been listening to the complaints and wishes for better performance and have been focusing on resolving as many of those issues as we can for 1.9. The nightly build that just appeared today has a slew of performance improvements that should make many users very excited
Hi,
Songbird is an open-source software and VLC too ! so why Songbird developpers don’t integrate the same method of decoding movies than VLC? it should be very good no?
It’s very slow and adding songs my pc is slow down and freeze.
Horizontal tab issue… ( Full screen issue ….)
I got exact problem when i installed some addons and restarted the songbird…
i resolve it by these steps
Go to start menu – > Songbird -> Songbird (Safe Mode)
Here Disable all the addons and restart the songbird.
Now it should come back to normal form.
enable the addon one at a time and restart the songbird. You will know which one is the problem.
In my case it was morningpeeps. i removed it. Let me know if its work for u
Hi. My Songbird can’t connect to the Shoutcast-servers. I am using SB 1.8.0 with Mac OS X. Who can help me???
Greets
lyricmaster fetch the wrong lyric
“People should be grateful this is free.”, but so is user feedback, and yet I don’t see that my question has been answered : http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2010/09/02/songbird-1-8-0-available/#comment-73514
This question has been answered a lot of times here and in GetSatisfaction already: Podcast support is not part of the roadmap for the moment.
Check here: http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Roadmap
A nice workaround on Windows is to use an excellent podcast tool like ziepod, and have Songbird watch the folders where Ziepod will download files.
)
Also the Tagger extension will help you in tagging those podcasts episode in an automated manner (for advanced users only
Please come up with an updated version on Lyricsmaster which would be compatible with Songbird 1.8.0 and higher.
Songbird supports FLAC, I know. Does v 1.8.0 support FLAC24 in the Windows version? In the Mac version (without conversion to ALAC24)?
If the answer to any of these is no, are there plans to add the function?
Many thanks.
No lyric-add-on found for this version. So sad
I like the lyric panel so much and I think this is a plus for this player. Why don’t you make lyric panel is default add-on on Songbird, just like Mashtape, Last FM…Etc… ?

Thanks for pointing out the road map and answering my specific question, even if it has already been answered. User (potential) satisfaction depends on feedback such as this one.
Just a feedback on 1.8… first time using the software, so I may not know what I’m doing…. =)
When you drag and drop a number of MP3s to the library, (say 12) you get a status “eg 3 songs added (9 already existed)” or whatever and its pretty fast, no problems.
However if you drag an insane amount of files (say 12000) there is no indication if songbird is actually doing anything…
I just downloaded 1.8 and it looks great. But I have one problem. I have the iphone app (Ver. 1.2.1) which is connected to my network but its unable to control the copy of Songbird I have running. When I press “Connection” it goes to a screen telling me to pick the Songbird I want to control. But there are no choices. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this.
You’re missing a software add-on for the copy of Songbird that you’re looking to control. If you search in Add-ons for ‘iPhone remote’ or something like that, you should turn it up. You then have to make sure to download the right one for both the operating system that the copy you’re trying to control is on and iPhone app that you’re running (which means clicking the right link under ‘Download’ and probably means scrolling down a ways until you find the one that works with ver. 1.2.*). Once you download that, it should show up in the left-hand column of Songbird, and when you press ‘Connection,’ you should find the device you’re trying to connect to listed. After you select that, a dialog box will open up in Songbird asking permission to access via the iPhone remote. Click yes, and you should be in business.
I found out the answers to my own questions in my Oct. 4 post. While those questions didn’t exactly generate a torrent of responses, here are the answers, in case anyone out there might be interested: yes, both the Windows and OSX versions of Songbird support FLAC24 files natively (and if you’ve got the gear to handle the output, the sound is fabulous).
