Community Device Testing Contest

By Laura Laura Permalink

Does your device work with our latest Windows build?

We’ve got $50 for the first person who completes a set of test cases for a top device and sends their results to us at devices@songbirdnest.com.

Even if you’re not first, we still want to know if your device will take flight and we’ve got a Songbird T-shirt we’ll send your way if you complete the tests.

You’ll find the top 25 devices we’re interested in learning about via Community Tested Devices. If your device isn’t on the list, just ping us in the comments field of this post and we’ll let you know if we need it tested.

As the test case feedback flys back in, we’ll populate the results in our updated Community Tested Devices wiki page.

@ ethanjw – yeah, that new A series release last month is sweet…go for it!
@ Brian – have standard Zen in house; have not tried lately, but popular – go for it!
@ GeekShadow – we had a Meizu on the list at one point. Adding M3 – go for it!
@ WMZ – no video support yet; in an upcoming nightly in Nov 2009. What device specifically are you suggesting?
@ Brizzle – we have a Sansa Clip in house; it works!

Get crazy! Thanks for your quick responses.

Is a testing for SanDisk SDMX1 needed?
It’s an elder model but i still know many people using it…

    Ping: Nokia 5800 Express Music?

Additionally I have some questions referring to the build one should use. This post links to build 1.4.0-1332. The “Community Device Functional Tests” wiki page says, that one should use “version 1322″, but again links to version 1332. So this is maybe just a typo. But the newest version of some addons is 1335. So which version should I use for testing?

  19. jleger Oct 28, 2009 2:05 pm Permalink

    Whoa…most excellent!

First, thanks for all the quick testing and results. We are getting the email from you and sorting through them. I have given all a “got it!” email response for now. We will respond to each of you shortly (most likely tomorrow PST), in more depth and to notify you as to (1) first one in $50 or (2) not the first, pick a T-shirt! ;-)

@Ormus – yep, got your input, thanks!
@Sergio – yes please. go ahead with the Sony X Series testing. thanks!
@ dan – only received some info on older Zen’s. zen v plus, go for it!
@ tgies – Palm Pre is not needed. We can cover that internally.
    @ Lukas_Skywalker – SanDisk SDMX1, well it did get a “9″ user rating ;-) Go!
@ BrudaSwen (1) – Nokia 5800 Express Music. Yes please try.
    @ BrudaSwen (2) – total typo…my bad! Fixed!
@ Jamie – we’re gonna stick with current Sony devices for now. Will let you know if that changes.
@ totopesce – Pass on the Palm Treo and the W910i for now.
@ totopesce – no need to do any iPods. Just MSC and MTP device for now.
@ Tushar – iPod Photo (wow you still have one? ;-) No iPods at this time. Thx.

    @ethanjim, et al -
Please all stay on the 1332 build with the 1332 addons for now.

Keep on rocking our device world!

I know you said you didn’t need the iPods / iPhones tested at this time, but let me know if you’d like any of those tested in Windows 7 Ultimate – that’s what I’m running :)

  21. Romano Oct 28, 2009 11:20 pm Permalink

there is no msc device in your list, you don’t want to know if they are supported?

  22. nicoxis Oct 29, 2009 8:31 am Permalink

I sent test case for Nokia 5610 Xpress Music, haven’t received any response so far.

It would be great if next time, a video could be attached with test cases as I was a little lost sometimes. Or also post screenshots with standard term, like “summary page”, sometimes I think they are a little vague.

    Thanks :)

I’m kinda busy right now but I can test my Nokia 5310 Xpress Music on Sunday if you want guys :)

@Tushar – no iPods. Just MTP and MSC device on Windows.
@Romano – you can set several of the device to MSC mode
@nicoxis – I caught up with all responses this AM PST. As you know, you got the $50. Whoo-hoo! Also, thanks for test case help input. Appreciate and will try to do better next contest ;-)
@Steven – no need to test the Nokia 5310. Thanks.
@Aze – Ah, another typo ;-( I will fix that, and yes, please try the Cowon S9.
@Nukedoon – We are a bit concerned that some other devices that use to work, are now not working with Build 1332. Can you go ahead and test your Sansa Clip for us please?

ALL – I have updated the Community Tested Devices wiki page with what has come in so far. Please check out devices not hit yet, and those nine already covered. Great job! The fifties and the t-shirts are rolling out the door!
