@geek: I tried Amarok but I can't get warm with the playlist orientated concept. I am focused an albums. I also didn't get it so select several genres at one time to see all artists/albums of this genre.
Another this is that I am still interested in when the next major songbird release is planned to come out...

@ Lenny Those sound good. On another waffle note, I have a recipe for The Liège waffle that I make during the holidays. We just call them French waffles. They're amazing. Great, now I have to go bake.

Amarok is also a great replacement for itunes for kde users.
I'd like to see a songbird gtk+ or qt integration.

@forest: As long as I can install Songbird easyly in Linux, I can live with it. :-) I also installed Banshee and testet it out. It feels really snappy and integrates perfectly under Gnome: Unfortunately it has one giant disadvantage, that makes it completely useless for me: it has no genre pane. Without this I am not able to manage my music library comfortably.
Until I see the final of jackson 5 I use Songbird with the managed mode turned off. I just haven't such a good feeling to entrust my whole library to such a freshly implemented feature. Even iTunes has deleted songs from me!
Keep on doing great work!

@volker I don't think you'll see Songbird as the default player on Ubuntu anytime soon. Many of the core features of Songbird such as MSC are not being developed for Linux. Plus, there is already a very good, feature-complete iTunes-killer in Linux, Banshee. If you haven't checked it out yet, you should head on over to banshee-project.org and get the latest .deb I think you'll be greatly satisfied. :-)

Hallo there!

I really appreciate your work on songbird. It is the condition for me, to switch from Mac to (Ubuntu)-Linux, because I need an iTunes-killer. ;-)
But what I am really interested about is, how is work going on for Jackson 5 and when do you think it will be released? I don't want my whole music library and files to be automatically managed by the first version of a program (sb. 1.2) which can do this.
For the future: I want to see Songbird as the default music player in Ubuntu 10.04!
