Hello you lucky birds, welcome to a super special Tuesday edition of the Birdbath. I’m smashing the best of last week and this week together into one big bath. What can I say? The Bay Bridge was closing, there was a company BBQ, a holiday weekend was approaching and I honestly didn’t realize how much you’d miss me our lunch menu. Delicious meatball, sausage and eggplant subs by the way. I really am sorry I left you hanging, but I’m more than a little delighted to learn that you love your weekly preening.
At least one sleuthing bird didn’t need me to tell them that our own SteveL was interviewed on How Software is Built. If you’re interested in where we’re heading and how we’re planning on getting there, you should find it interesting. It also covers some of the burning questions you have voiced about Apple and how we plan to make any money if it’s all free. Check it out!
Some very busy birds put their beaks together to make something cool happen last week. Thanks to a whole flock of feathered friends you can now GET control of your network via the web. As one user said, their “dreams have come true.” gfxmonk got the ball rolling with the add-on, GeekShadow quickly hopped in, then boosh and jhlassen17 joined the party and now there’s a wiki tutorial and iGadget to boot so you can even get control if you don’t have your own web space. It’s birdacious.
Last but not least, it’s contest time. A few weeks back one of our champs suggested that we solicit videos from our super star users to showcase how you use Songbird.
A compelling user demonstration will focus on what makes Songbird unique. What are your favorite features and add-ons? What tips and tricks do you use to boost your Songbird experience? Show us your bird’s style and how you make it fly to your own beat. The winning videos will be featured on our wiki and will be linked from our Get Satisfaction homepage. And if fame isn’t enough, there are prizes too! First place will receive a Timbuk2 bag, and 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded a Songbird T-shirt.
Please upload all entries to our Songbird Demo YouTube Group. Your video should not exceed 5 minutes and should excite me or teach me something new. All entries must be uploaded to the group by October 30th, 2009 and the winners will be announced in the November 5th Birdbath. Good Luck!

Timbuk2 bag!! Yes Please!!
And great interview SteveL!
Hi,
Your Songbird Demo YouTube Group link is bringing me to more Timbuk2 bags. Maybe you guys secretly do retail on the side….?
OMG Well I do get commission from Timbuk2, but this may be more what you’re looking for: http://www.youtube.com/group/songbirddemo. It’s fixed now, thanks so much.
Nice Birdbath and the SteveL interview on How Software is Built was a great read. Looking forward to checking out the videos.
your survey sucks. it limits the answers to things like the ipod and phones that dont even allow you to use your own music as a ringtone. where is the G1 or Android phones which run LINUX unlike all of these other crap phones you have on the list. your survey is skewed and should be thrown out.
@daniel church
Wow, calm down fella. O.o
Anyway…
So, how’s 1.3? Any progress?
Yeah what is up with 1.3?
In my opinion, 1.3 will not release, 1.4 is due for october, just wait a little
Oh and nice interview Stephen !
yeah.. GS is correct.. The 1.3 tree hasn’t been touched for ages (it was forked to 1.3.1, and then ignored). So 1.4 will be the next one probably.. Then again, the only real significant feature I thought was in 1.3.0 was the media management warning…
One other (and even more IMHO) significant feature: the MSC support on Windows.
If you own an MSC compatible player maybe
Where are you from? Is it a secret?
@andrew: that would still make one hell of a population: everyone that has a device without a small apple on it
Totally correct as normal Klint.
Now only if they had MTP support working in 1.3 it would be worth it
I’m very sad and a bit disappointed.
Today’s morning I opened the almighty Songbird and when I was about to play my brand new remastered Beatles library I found out it was gone!
=’(
I agree with Daniel Church; the survey is designed to boost the importance of features that are already planned. In particular, these plans ought to include support for Android phones.
Certainly a lot easier now to complete the competition
@Everyone with Android Phones
The Android phone supports MSC as it’s transfer mechanism. MSC is currently implemented and still being refined. So no, we aren’t biased and no we are not ignoring other devices. Get over it
