Get Satisfaction SOS

By Laura Laura Permalink

Since the release of 1.0 our Get Satisfaction community has gone through a major growth spurt and we’re struggling to keep up with all the posts. After a month of trying to go it on our own we realized no one knows more about Songbird than you. You know our strengths, our areas for improvement, where we are headed and where we never want to go.

We need your help in getting our community under control.

You can help by jumping in and answering some posts. If you want to do more, contact me and we can go from there. If you are already active in Get Satisfaction, thanks! Do you want to become an Official Representative of Songbird? What can I do to keep you as an active contributor? Talk to me.

Sorry, for my long absence. Had work related troubles and coldn’t spare as much time for you, as I would have wanted to.

    But I’m back.
I don’t think, that it is such a wise Idea. to go out and let others call themselves official reps or some such. For that, we don’t know enough about your inner workings, now do we?

A simple user based help system is quite sufficient, if you ask me.
Feel free to contact me, though, when you want to plan something else, or more serious.

    See you on getsatisfaction.com.

    Tyler out!

    @tylerstyle,

Totally understandable, we’ll take whatever time you can spare, thanks!

You are especially adept at forwarding dupe threads to the appropriate topic which is something you could do even more efficiently with “Official Rep” status as that would give you access to more Get Satisfaction tools. We are only extending this option to people who we know “get it” if you will, and your point is well taken about giving it to anyone. Still, believe it or not, I know about as much as you guys know, and in most cases you know more as you have a longer history with Songbird than I do!

If you want me to try it, I’ll do it. As said. If you need something, mail me.
Since I can’t code, but love this program, it’s the least I can do.

I’ve only been here since around the 6.0.1 release, and I’m not exactly sure if you’re looking for anyone in particular or if this is just a request for volunteers, but either way, I’d be happy to help. I try and visit Get Satisfaction as much as I can, and one of the things I like doing most is answering other people’s questions.

What do you look for in a potential Official Rep? And does being one involve anything other than just being as helpful/active as possible on Get Satisfaction?

    Thanks,
    Dustin Paluch

I only jumped on board right before your 1.0 release, but I have to say I fell in love with Songbird and its potential as soon as I fire it up. Let me say that I’m a music fanatic. I’ve played bass for over 20 years now and listen to music from the time I get up, driving to work, all day while I’m coding, and while I’m at home at night. It’s just in my soul. That said, I kind of shuffled around different music players with add-ons and such which is why I think Songbird has what it takes to be great. Everything I want in a player is there in a glance and customizable. Awesome.

Lengthy post aside, I’d love to help out however I can. I’ve primarily done web development for several years now and am finishing up my BS in software engineering this year so while I haven’t got as much desktop development experience, maybe one day I can help on that front. In the meantime, I’d like to try and help however possible to promote what I believe is a fantastic product.

As a proud user of Songbird, I’d love to help my fellow birders even more at getsatisfaction if I’m privileged to do so. I recon you’ve seen some of my comments and thoughts at getsatisfaction, so I’ll let them speak for me.

As a newbie who has dumped Songbird because it didn’t recognise my Creative Zen – even with the Add-on – (and I am not the only one with this problem)…..it would be great if other people could help out.

    Hello,

I’m using songbird since 0.3, checking the sites few times a day and trying to do something back for songbird. (currently helping with the dutch translation and spreading the word).

I’m currently not such an active user on getsatisfaction, but I follow songbird very close and I’m good aware of what’s happening, current and planned features etc.

So I would be happy to help you guys with this. Let me know (preferably by mail) what I can do.

Maybe you guys should open forum, and have boards like “add-ons request” and “bug report”, and maybe even a social area to strengthen Songbird community. Just a thought. Don’t judge me if it’s a bad idea. :)

Slacker, they took the old forums out back and shot them. Probably for the better too, there were very long periods with no official responses (talking 6 weeks+ in some cases) and were kind of a mess, (no offense to the devs, I just remember being quite active early on, trying my best to answer what I could and direct people to answers when possible). I was unsure of the move to Get Satisfaction, but I finally started taking a look through it and it is much easier to use and find answers on. I am hoping that one day, forums will come back. I prefer a good set of forums to Get Satisfaction, just need a really good search algorithm for it. =P

I have moved, removed, renamed, and added songs to my library. Scanning for files to get Songbird back in order was the horror I expected. Every rating I had was lost. The fact that the team wimped out on embedding ratings in the songs was the most disappointed I’ve been in this project. If I knew how to do it myself, I would; There are so many things to love about Songbird!

I must say.. your software is AWESOME! I really love Songbird… I just came here to say thank you and thank you! I finally have an iTunes alternative for Linux and Windows! Keep up the good work.

    Dear Laura,

I would love to help Songbird in my region (The Netherlands and Belgium) as an Official Representative of Songbird. I think a lot of people here have to get in touch with the great Songbird!

    Contact me.
