Songbird Remote iPhone/iPod Touch App

By stevel stevel Permalink

As covered in LifeHacker and Wired today, 779Media (a.k.a. crisrys from #songbird) released his Songbird Remote iPhone app last night.  You can find it in the iTunes App Store right now!  Don’t forget to install the Songbird Extension required for it to work.

This first version of the Songbird Remote displays the currently playing track info and allows you to play/pause, and go to the next or previous track.

I’m hopeful Cris will implement some additional features such as library/playlist browsing; and I’ve talked with him briefly for plans to incorporate mashTape content into the Songbird Remote display.  Anyway – enough rambling, go download the app!  It’s free for a limited time!

Woo – nice addon! Tried it on my Ubuntu 8.04 machine but no luck (stuck as searching on the iPhone)… Just noticed the addon says Ubuntu 8.10 though so will try it on my 8.10 machine later. Good work!

Any plans for a 64-bit Linux? I have an iPhone but can’t use this without 64 support. :( Nice work so far!

@Joren I’ll second that – a Simplify Media addon would be amazing! :o ) Well, we can hope right?

Free for a limited time? It’s the lack of features like this which force people to continue using iTunes. The remote app on iPhone is my most useful app outside the normal phone functions.

Not having this feature available for songbird, or available with a bad implementation and a fee would stop me from going anywhere near it.

    Nice App!
Snikch, you also have to understand that this app isn’t made by Songbird and it takes the developer a considerable amount of time to work on it. It is free right now, but even a small amount wouldn’t be too much to ask.

is not made public right here somewhere where it should be?

I’m really happy to see apps like this being made. I’m hopeful that the Songbird team or someone will create a similar app for Android. I have an iTunes remote on Android (on the G1), but I don’t use iTunes, I use Songbird! :)

Nice beginning. It might be rough and slow, but it’s nice to see the Songbird community quickly responding to the market.

Nice Idea. But it’s also needed for other devices :)
