Blessed 0.6pre Builds are Rockin Da Nest!

By jleger jleger Permalink

Songbird QA has blessed the first set of stable 0.6 builds with the latest nightly development code. A primary focus of the 0.6 release is improved performance when importing media and sorting large playlists. Some of these code updates have landed in these blessed builds.

We encourage any/all to download the build and send in feedback and bugs as we work toward our final 0.6 release by May/June.

Wow, this is already much much faster than before, good work and no crashes or anything suspicious yet…

Thanks. Great news! I tried 0.5(and 0.3, i think, for a short while) and found it rather slow for a 50GB music library. I will check this one out.

Just gave this a try with my 60GB iTunes library and it looks much better than previous releases! Peformance is much better and it seems stable thus far. Can’t wait for 0.6 propper, I’d love to ditch iTunes and Windows for good.

    Thanks!

That’s nice :) perf. improvements are really impressive (for 25GB of music/videos) !
I just find the default skin a lot too dark, and there’s actually no usable/nice brighter skin available, and I can’t wait for a Linux MTP extension but Songbird is just going to be THE “alternative” media player on Windows and the major media player on Linux, like Firefox today.
In my opinion it just needs a skin that looks more “general”, more rallying.

If only there were some sort of bugfix blog, like the Burning Edge for Firefox, a blog that I’ve always found to be helpful for pointing out exactly what’s new/revised/fixed in the code. I understand that this build isn’t too screenshot-y, but I still yearn for something more substantial than “better performance, check it out.”

Gr8 job!!!! I used the 0.5 version found it really very slow and sluggish. This 0.6 release is really gr8!!! Btw I think a bit more work is needed when it comes to CPU consumption and RAM consumption. If these two aspects are taken care of, i think songbird has the best future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say, even though I am very new to this software, the 0.6pre release is really darn good. I’ve just converted from iTunes (thank god) and I’m really happy with were this program is going. The speed and handling of a large library is a killer. Maby some work on the looks would be a welcome improvement on for 0.7?
