Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) built on stack such as Adobe Air and Microsoft Silverlight have captured the imagination of the web development community. The promise of transferring the user interface processing to the client or conversely web enabling a desktop application is compelling. Of course, marrying desktop application and the web is nothing new to Songbird users.

Ask Apple about the competition-obviating iTunes + iPhone tight-binding and it will be your last interview question. Valleywag has the story.

Are you interested in being at the center of the delivery of a cross-platform, open-source, desktop media player to the world?
We are looking for an exceptional build & release engineer who can insure that our build farm is humming and that Songbird gets installed safely on millions of desktops.
We need someone who relish the challenge of automating the customization and packaging of our product for hundreds of distribution partners.
Our build system needs to be automated, modular, scalable and flexible. Our process needs to support 40+ languages, Windows, OSX and Linux on various architectures, 100+ customizable add-ons, feathers, etc. Keeping the configuration matrix under control is a challenge within of itself. Sounds like fun? We think so.
If makefiles make sense to you, if you are obsessed with details and love making release check lists, we want to hear from you!
Check out our job description and read more about what’s like to work at the nest.
Chirp,
Georges

Thanks so much to you, the 50+ media service developers, Media Web innovators and entrepreneurs, birdbuilders and birdwatchers who came to the first Media Web Meet-up. I’ll post video from the meet-up just as soon as we polish in post-production.
Special thanks to Mike Linksvayer of Creative Commons for first an overview of CC’s lawyer- and machine-readable Some Rights Reserved licenses, services and software followed by a compelling State of the Union update of music on the Web. I’ll link to his slides as soon as they’re posted.
Mike also mentioned that Creative Commons is fundraising and offering a limited edition, smirk-worthy tshirt:

Also my thanks to Tara and crew from Citizen Agency for driving this and future Media Web Meet-ups. Thanks to our operations crew Sharon and Marion for producing another flawless event!
As mentioned, a supporting OpenMediaWeb.org web site is forthcoming. I’ll blog its launch.
chirps,
Rob
