[2007.09.13] Finally! Another Blessing for your Inspection!

http://publicsvn.songbirdnest.com/wiki/Nightly_Builds

Come help us peer into the depths of the ‘Bird…

It’s been awhile changing things over before they were stable enough to feel comfortable with sharing with all you wonderful folks.

Web Playlist Downloading

There’s plenty of new art and functionality, the tabs are more stable, the downloads are more friendly, and there’s even starting to be a decent number of Add-Ons available for this 0.3 Nightly.

Remember, Blessed Nightlies are for you to test something relatively stable and tell us what bugs you can still find in it. With your assistance, we’ve closed over 1000 bugs along the way to 0.3 but we know there still must be more to be found.

Please please please help us out by running a Smoketest and filing bugs in Bugzilla as you find them!

Oh and by the way, for those of you who have asked in the past for a Stop button and been told that it will be able to be added as an extension, well, I wrote the extension:

http://addons.songbirdnest.com/extensions/detail/48

Install! Enjoy! File bugs!

    THANK YOU.

Can’t wait for 0.3! Looks like I’ll be finally - FINALLY - switching away from WinAmp to a new media player. I couldn’t be more excited to do so.

THANK YOU for the Stop button extension!

thanks for the link to the more detailed docs on creating an extension in 0.3 - should make it easier :)

I’m running Songbird on Linux and this new version runs with the titlebar on, which makes it look rather awkward. The old version (i.e. 2.5) doesn’t do that.

Also, is there any way of importing my music and playlists into the new version?

    Looks great though, otherwise. :P

    Hello
Thanks for this new build… but I cannot find where the “watched folders” feature has gone ! Are they still here ? I hope so
    Thanks

They weren’t working very well and have been disabled for 0.3 — we hope to reenable them in a future build, but don’t have it retargeted on the internal roadmap, yet.

    Sorry!

The Linux titlebar issue is known, but it may not get fixed for 0.3: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3735

Also, unfortunately, the new library uses a completely different database schema than 0.2.5, and there were lots and lots of bugs when we were attempting migration of the user’s Mozilla Profile data.

So for the sake of trying to release 0.3 earlier, we decided to make everyone start fresh.

We understand this is annoying to people and will hopefully not do it too often.

Thanks for your support and concern.

    You’re welcome!

We understand that the success of an Open Source product is as much in how it engages and can respond to the Community as to the Marketplace.

Sometimes it’s difficult to balance both issues, but the extensibility of the Mozilla platform gives us significant flexibility to deploy “optional” functionality as simple extensions.

    You’re welcome, too! :)

Hopefully that will get some good information into the hands of our community. Please make a bug in Bugzilla if you have any questions or see any errors.

    Hi all

Finally we ve got the alternative :)

But songbird miss a very important thing : the sound corrector (like itunes).
We wish that songbird will add a better sound corrector or enchencer then itunes :))

    Thanks for the update.
but that is too sad, imho this was a killing feature of Songbird towards iTunes .

    Hi.

I’ve been following Songbird since the very beginning, but since I’m not a developer of any sort I didn’t register, just tried to see how it works and stuff. And finally you have released a version that almost completely works for me…

But however, I still found a little ‘issue’ (nothing big, just graphical) that I’ve been seeing since the very beginning of songbird: If your taskbar is bigger than one line, Songbird places itself under the taskbar instead of resizing. To make it clear, I’ve added a picture: http://img523.imageshack.us/my.php?image=taskbarbugyu4.jpg.

Hope it’s clear this way… And I hope you can solve it. It’s not a major thing, but it annoys me.

    Keep up the good work!.

    BenM.

I will see if I can try it some more later on. This looks really great. I’m somewhat happy I said goodbye to iTunes and hello to Songbird.

    Keep up the great work.

Could Songbird PLEASE sync to my music collection? I add a song, and Songbird doesn’t know about it. Moreover, I delete a song, and Songbird still shows it. I’ve already ditched iTunes, but if Songbird had live updates to my hard drive, I would feel a lot better about it.

Bug 1961 is tracking spambots. It seems we’re mainly waiting on the new version of the site to help cut down on spambots.

Yes, there’s bugs with the Mozilla implementation of “Maximize” on Windows when the OS frame has been removed.

Hopefully we’ll get to these soon.

  16. mig Sep 20, 2007 4:04 pm Permalink

We had to remove it for 0.3

We want to put it back. Very much.

I am eagerly anticipating the Mac version of this one. It could have a dramatic effect on the podcasting landscape if people could have the ability to create and share playlists of podcasts and podsafe music through podcasting sites. discount cigarettes
