Better Build Instructions for Win 32

http://publicsvn.songbirdnest.com/wiki/Build_Instructions#Win32:MSYS

I’ve updated the Public SVN Build Instructions page to better reflect what we’ve been doing to our 0.3 build system.

Of course, we still don’t work yet with VC8:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2052

And there’s a small little bug with finding the wmsdk.h file:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4440

But for everyone who has been asking, the documentation is updated and ready for consumption. We’re happy to announce we’re adopting Mozilla’s use of the MSYS build environment (from the friendly folks who brought us MinGW), and that everything is much easier and faster with it.

Then again — why are you asking? Don’t you know you can do almost anything in Songbird using simple crossplatform Javascript? You only really need to build the app if you need to compile your own C++ against our headers… and that’s just never any fun is it?

Hooray for scripting!

You should take a look at CMake, it’s a cross-platform make. It generates a build workspace for almost any compiler on almost any platform.

    Ahm… and it’s open-source.

    Cheers

I have just started to use Songbird 0.2.5, I am running it on Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. I ve been listening to the songs from a blog. Songbird listed all the mp3 files from the displayed page and i was able to play them as if they are at a local playlist. But it cuts of the song just a few seconds before it ends and goes to the next song in the list. Just to be more specific, i was listening to the songs from the blog with this url:

Is it a good way to post such problems as commments to this blog , or do you have any other contact options to receive feedback? (would it be better to post it at the forum?)

    Thanks.

Try bugzilla. Things get looked at much quicker there, and then you can also track the progress of the bug as well.

    Yup, we love our Bugzilla:

It allows us to properly track the full lifecycle of a bug much better than trying to use peoples’ blog and forum comments. We would request all of our users utilize it.

This bug, however, I believe to already be fixed in the 0.3 Nightly builds. Certainly, SB0.2.5 was pretty crummy under Vista.

    Thanks!

Did you bother to read the bsod? It usually provides information on why the system crashed. If you write down what it says, you can usually find the causes in the MS knowledge base, and then fix the problem.
