Some great hackers are currently working on making a skin to better support the Right-To-Left languages (Farsi, Arabic, Hebrew, etc) available in Songbird, and they’re using our Bugzilla to keep us aware of their progress:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3724
If this is an important feature to you, you should post your support in that bug! That lets the people working on it know how much their work matters, and lets us keep an eye on all of it to know better how to produce the features most important to you.
And anyone else out there working on any kind of Extension, Feathers, or what-not, do please make a Bugzilla entry in the Extensions product and we’ll be overjoyed to provide whatever assistance you require and introduce our users to you when you’re ready to show your progress.
Development in a vacuum is totally boring.

Having issues making Songbird get up and go under Linux? And didn’t you choose Ubuntu because it was supposed to make all that Linux mess easier?
Well, today is your lucky day, friend.
Those wild feline hackers over at Psychocats have put together a very simple script that will wget the 0.2.5 for your proper architecture and install it into your launcher menu:

Go give it a try, and then tell them how much you love them!

Hey Birders, Here’s a fun, 2 minute hack to replace the background image for your songbird with your favorite flickr photo.
But first, a brief 0.3 update. We’ve been busy refining and tightening Rubberducky to get it ready for 0.3. Here’s the sneak peek:

Now then, on to the FUN!

Last Friday, Mark Finkle of Mozilla posted his wishlist for XULRunner. We applaud his sense for what makes a good desktop application. The quality of our application depends on the quality of our platform. As such we’d like to echo a few we’ve stumbled over:
- Make hidechrome=”true” & background-color: transparent; work across all major platforms (Mark, thank you for championing the UI!). (BMO 322788, BMO 307204 and BMO 298889)
-
<resizer> elements do not respect the document’s min-width nor their own disabled state (BMO 291331)
- Make maximize respect toolbar/taskbar sizes on Windows desktop (BMO 321595)
- Modal dialogs don’t disable hotkeys on parent window in Linux (BMO 290862)
-
Ability to attach an OS “system menu” to our top-left icon (BSC 1791)
-
Better handling of xpi extensions that are not proper for a given xulrunner application (BMO 313468)

Head over to the Culture Bully and get ready for a drubbing. Blogger Chris DeLine says he’ll try and hit you every way he can. I caught up to him recently to get more on the Culture Bully.
SB: Why did you start your blog? Is it an “Mp3 Blog” a “Music Blog” a “Media Blog” or just a “Blog”?
CB: Well, for a while it was just a personal blog, using it as a
platform to share my thoughts, stories about my friends and myself and all sorts of those types of things. Slowly over time though I moved closer and closer towards talking about music and a few other humor-related things on the site exclusively. Is it an mp3 blog? Absolutely, but it’s also a music blog, a media blog and a personal blog…there’s a bit of everything depending on the post.
