Singing on a Mac

By Aus Aus Permalink

Woo! MacOS X Songbird doing the chirpy dance.

The current build of it now plays back thanks to the VLC 0.8.5 plugin on both ppc and intel mac’s. I’ve been trying to hack the QuickTime plugin in there, but, there seems to be a bug preventing me from finishing this right now. It’s unclear as to if it’s just the QuickTime plugins weird re-initialization on SetURL that’s causing issues or that html:embed in a XUL document doesn’t work quite like it’s supposed to. More on this soon…

It still needs a few CSS fixes here and there and we still have quite a few bugs to close before 0.2 but, this playback on Mac thing is a great step in the right direction :)

Sounds great, I’m glad things are coming aong as well as they are. What would have been the advantage of using Quicktime over VLC? Just that it’s already built into the Mac and would make it a little less bloated?

Also, will there be a way to get rid of the window that’s housing the Songbird app? That could be annoying to look at when running it.

I believe they need Quicktime to playback Apple protected content.

This is great news. I know that a boatload of Mac users are looking forward to being able to move away from iTunes. Thanks for all the work on this.

Songbird is one of the best player. So I’ve decided to make a mobile phone theme for my Sony Ericsson k750i. I’ve used a lot of pictures from this site here. So I want to ask you (the creators of this pictures or these ones who have the rights on these pictures) for permission to upload (e.g. deviantart and my HP).
    Here a preview image: http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9518/preview8yo.jpg

I’ve tried a contact over email but I’m waiting for reply over a week. Perhaps the spam-filter blocked my mail, because I’ve attached the preview image and the theme file.

    Adiwan,
First off, I apologize for my tardy reply. I’ve been focused on a few urgent items before I leave for a couple days.

Otherwise, awesome! We love fan art at Songbird! For now, we only ask a couple things of all of you who like to do this kind of stuff:

Make your artwork available with a Creative Commons license and if you post it somewhere you must post it to our Forums (so I can enjoy it too).

Looking forward to the poot ahead,
    Koshi.
