Second call for Localization?

By mig mig Permalink

So, my designer put a bunch more stuff into the dtd files and my boss thought it was worth asking for another round of localizations before we ship our 0.1 next week.

Thanks very much for everyone who has sent us localization files, so far. If people don’t send us a new pack for a language we already have, I’ll just add english strings to the end of them.

Well call me crazy but I would personally prefer knowing some stinkin’ details first, about a project I’m contributing to.
And, guess what, seeing only a translation text file is just not enough.

Hear that, release some sort of a working piece of software and then ask for community’s support.

I just mailed you an updated version ofmy german translation. I hope i didnt miss any string. Even more Ihope my work is considered to be used. ;-)

Just sent an updated Italian localization.
    Can’t wait to try Songbird…
IMHO only after having seen the localization in the context of the real application one can know if he’s done a good work. I hope mine it’s OK :-)

    French files updated ;-)

The strings are very basic… No need to see the GUI to understand what “Play” and “Pause” mean ;-)
Also, it doesn’t take too long.
I think it’s worth doing it!

nice attitude. but i think someone else will provide a translation of tt-RU while you wait for your demands to be met.

Swedish translation have been mailed in now… =)

I’ve sent you the updated nl-NL files.

Next time, it would be more convenient if the changes in the English version were automatically merged into the nl-NL one, adding the lines that are new and replacing the lines that have changed. Or provide a diff, or something. That way I wouldn’t have to do a manual line-by-line comparison.

Additionally, you can contact me directly if you’d like. That way, I’ll get a ‘callback’ notification instead of one by means of polling :) , making the response time faster.

By the way, I wonder, will Songbird be open source?

    ~Grauw

p.s. en-US says “Hours(s)” and “Days(s)” for the subscribe.hours and subscribe.days strings, I think that is an error.

I personally suggest the MozLCDB tool that many Gecko localizers use for the ease of localizing.
    It’s located at http://moztw.org/tools/mozlcdb.

  14. Anonymous Dec 18, 2005 2:35 pm Permalink

Yes. Hopefully we’ll have that all setup with all the other “open source project” infrastructure we need to build for the 0.2 release.

    Way to copy the competition!!

    by asking for localizations?

  17. Cleber Mori Dec 23, 2005 8:39 pm Permalink

Portuguese-BR (Brazil) is on the e-mail too.

I had some doubts about one or another string, as they can have more than one meaning (in english)0 and different translations, but I tried to do my best without looking the program.

    Best regards!

Open source sux. that’s why everyone is dropping it. Only the truly gulible think people are adopting it. For every one company / person that adopts it at least 20 drop it for real software!

  21. Anonymous Dec 24, 2005 8:52 pm Permalink

the only ones dropping are the ones who do not understand why open source is great: The people using the product are making it better because they want it better, not just profit like microsoft.

I’ll try to tlansrate to Japanese(Ja-JP).

I found big problem on Songbird. When Japanese characters(Such as Kanji, Hiragana, or Katakana) are used for the media files name, the songbird cannot play them.

I listen my music in the job with the Songbird, there the version is in Portuguese (BR), but when install Songbird on my own computer on my house, it´s installed on English (United States).
Where I change the English to Portuguese (BR), cause on “FILE, Language”, is impossible, cause haven´t other alternative than English.

    Thank`s.
